This show was before the song came out on LP. One of those album cuts that endures beyond some other songs put out as singles. I think Merle has more songs that were album cuts or B-Sides that are classics than any other artist in music (including Today I Started Loving You Again, Silver Wings, Footlights, Somewhere Between, Every Fool Has a Rainbow, White Line Fever, Irma Jackson, California Cottonfields, Tulare Dust, Farmer's Daughter, Honky Tonk Night Time Man, Holding Things Together, Diana, Make Up and Faded Blue Jeans, Shopping for Dresses, No Time to Cry, Listening to the Wind, and many, many others....

  • This would have been early 1987 I think, as the show was well before the song came out as a single in late 1987. His current album was "Out Among the Stars". He also did "Almost Persuaded" on the show, which was his current single at the time...

  • Both of those songs were on my first Merle Lp, "The Fighting Side of Me". He also did a great version of "Every Fool" on "The Epic Collection - Recorded Live".

  • Ain't Nothin' Better...

  • I miss shows like this. I think tv and also the music has gotten worse

  • He still sings it in concert often ...wonderful song !

  • I wish I could be 30 again, well when you think about it we all have said that at one time or another. Merle puts its in the right frame of mind. Freddie and Merle they are a duet in my eye, I just don't know how long they have been friends and co/writers on many songs. This is a great one as ususal and I will play it time and again now that I am 60. jb king

  • Man oh man, it's hard to top Merle. He and the Possum were hands down the best.

  • Praise be to God that Merle exits!

  • What year was this? Late 80's? I seem to remember seeing this when it first aired, I never missed Ralph Emery...
