Mashallah what a logic bro! this is why you rock!! I'm just sick of muslims who try to show that they are more "exclusive" than others, that other muslims are just ordinary just bcoz they dun follow rules strictly. This is how these muslims divide ummah by segregating themselves from others. Its only upto Allah to decide who is close to him. As far as naming naming convention goes, muslim is the best!

If you have a better name to call yourself by, better than the one Allah used to call his servants, then by all means, go ahead. We're lucky to call ourselves Muslims. The majority of the other religions are named after certain individuals, (ex: Christianity, Buddhism, etc.), we're lucky to call ourselves by something that actually has a meaning, and relates directly to Allah, not a human being. The word Muslim is a great word why would you want to substitute it for something else?

I was born in Sunni - Hanafi family.

Then became Salafi as I read it was only ruled by Allah, and his messenger. (Qur'an and hadith).

Then I quit all this, and became muslim.

ASSALAMUALAIKUM WR, with respect to my dear brother dr.zakir naek and all the muslims of the world AS SOON AS YOU SAY THAT I BELIEVE IN THE QUR'AAN AND THE SAHEEH AHDEETH AUTOMATICALLY IT MEANS THAT YOU ARE AN AHLE HADEETH( THE ONE WOO BELIEVES IN QURAAN AND AUTHENTIC HADEETH). this is just to be recognised otherwise no muqallid can ever declare that he believes in Qur'aan and the Saheeh Ahadeeth!!, because the are obliged to their self made imams not Qur'aan and Sunnah.so not to be afraid
