Suburban Madness is a documentary that intends to portray a unique social experiment.
Loucura Suburbana (Suburban Madness) is the name of the carnival group of one of Brazil's innovative Psychiatric Institutions.
Situated in Rio de Janeiro, Fundacao Nise da Silveira believes in unconventional treatments. Therefore, limited medical resources are replaced by music and dance therapy.
During Carnival, patients and staff perform together with locals as a symbol of integration and diversity.
The aim is to capture what happens when the patients escape the institution's confinement to clash with the "normal" world going crazy. In other words, madness meets collective craziness.
