Jens Voigt crashed spectacularly during the 2009 Tour de France. The resulting impact created a mound of earth that is visible to this day. It is called "Col du Tourmalet".

saw an interview on this year's TdF with Jens about this crash. he said that although it looked specatular with the sparks coming from the bike and bleeding from his face he only broke a finger and had road rash, nothing more serious...but he admitted it did scare him b/c he was going so fast.

No, from the NYTimes article "Crashes Can Make Even the Best Cyclists Uneasy", he studied the video with some experts and concluded it wasn't the components, it was a small lip in the road and he slipped on the white line. But he's one of the toughest competitors out there, that helped him recover.
