Add-on for the old E01 (Project Mettrix) Sonic fangame engine featuring Green Hill Zone from Sonic 1
This video was originally posted on a Sonic the Hedgehog messageboard in 2002, about a couple of months before a playable release, and was followed shortly by another showing Tails. I posted it without a description to see what kind of reaction it would generate. It was pretty well-split with about half assuming it was an official game or a modification thereof, and about half accusing it of being completely falsified, and hand-made frame-by-frame (...what?). I created the video by causing the game to save an image for every game frame and merging them into an AVI, so the original had no sound. Another member named LocalH was so excited about it that he created the sound layer from music and sound effects dumped from the emulator KGen, and sent it to me for inclusion and re-upload
The purpose of the add-on was to compare the performance of the E01 engine with that of the official games. It was well-received and hailed as the most accurate reproduction for it's time, but it was still flawed, and has since been replaced by E02
Another reason this video/add-on was of interest was that, at the time, neither Tails nor Knuckles had been made playable in the original Sonic 1, though these were things I had been able to accomplish properly in 2006 with "Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog" and "Sonic for MegaCD"
