TENANT SERVICES AUTHORITY 2 - YOUHOUSING

THE REGULATOR OF REGISTERED SOCIAL LANDLORDS (RSLs) otherwise known as HOUSING ASSOCIATIONS (HAs) is the TENANT SERVICES AUTHORITY (TSA).

At present the sector is NOT:
- OPEN
- ACCOUNTABLE
- TRANSPARENT
- HONEST (?)

Yet today was the FIRST PARTIALLY OPEN Board Meeting - Tuesday 17 November 2009.


TUESDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2009 was the FIRST PARTIAL OPEN BOARD MEETING of the NEW TENANT SERVICES AUTHORITY (TSA) - REGULATOR FOR SOCIAL HOUSING - Raising The Standard of Services for Tenants.

The intention is for the FIRST time to trial:
- OPENNESS
- ACCOUNTABILITY
- TRANSPARENCY
- HONESTY (?)

The TSA meets at Tottenham Court Road, London [next to WARREN STREET Underground Station]

Purpose is to deliver:
- Tenant "Empowerment" [Perception or Reality?]
- Quality of Homes or are they mere properties with no [real] "opportunity" to live in them?
- Future [Increased?] Rent Levels
- Anti-Social Behaviour Powers (?)
- Allocations Policies (?)
- Customer Service "Improvements" (?)
- Financial Viability [Through Increased Rents] (?)
- Improvement of Performance
- Use of New Enforcement Powers to ensure Tenants get a "Good" service [but how good?]
- Potential to transfer management of Housing Association properties to another provider...

HOUSING CONSULTATION IS VERY MUCH A "TOP-DOWN" PROCESS IN THE UK...

IS IT NOT TIME THAT THIS "TOP-DOWN" POLICY SHOULD BE CHANGED...?
