Final Fantasy X - My Last Breath

If you have not played Final Fantasy X, then read this first:

Tidus is a star blitzball player (equivalent to football) in the city of Zanarkand. In the middle of a final game, a giant thing called Sin attacks the city. Tidus's friend Auron takes him a thousand years to the future through Sin.

In Spira (1000 years later), summoners are people who travel across the world finding Aeons to help them defeat Sin. They have gaurdians to protect them, though the final battle with Sin will always kill them regardless (boo-hoo), and Sin will always come back in ten years. Yuna is a new summoner, whose father defeated Sin ten years ago. Who should wash up on the beach of her island village, but Tidus. So Tidus, of course reluctanly (sarcasm there), tags along with her on her journey.

Seymour Guado (one of the badguys) wishes to marry Yuna. She accepts, but only so she can kill him. Tidus and group don't like the idea of her marrying him, so they go and try to rescue her, with mild success. Tidus and Yuna have a growing romance throughout the game, and Tidus is, well, upset when he learns that Yuna will die in the final battle. He swears to find another way to kill Sin (which they do). However, it turns out that his Zanarkand was all a dream world, and that once they defeat Sin he will disappear as well.

They fight and kill Sin, but then Tidus begins to disappear. Yuna at first refuses to accept the fact that he has to leave. She confesses her love for him, and he hugs her for a long time. Then he walk through her and leaps off the side of the airship, fading away as he falls.

Somehow, in Final Fantasy X-2 (I haven't actually played it yet), Tidus returns and they are reunited.
