google EQEMU and follow their play guide, Nothing currently out is exactly like the 1999 servers but they try.

who cares about how it looks what made the game great was how hard it was and how you needed to group at like level 5. how everything was well balanced.

and traveling was real, it wasnt done on some stupid ass flying mounts

@EverQuestClassic Oh aye they are about Kunark or maybe Velious now in expansions. So there's no PoK and no Nexus. Travel is done with your ingame feet or a helpful wizard or druid.

@EverQuestClassic EQ has a timelocked progression server going just now. It's nearly back to what it was back in the day minus some fairly big things such as respawning with your gear (so no corpse runs) or cash having weight.

I always bring an enemy to fight near this city but not so close to where the guards can kill it. Therefore when I'm done killing it, the song will start. Not only is the song rewarding, but I would feel like I'm on a real quest.

Everquest, the real ongoing game, is launching a new Progression server in March that will be time locked. The game will start off with a totally classic server then slowly release the expansions. Unfortunately last time they did this they unlocked things as people beat raid bosses and all the expansions were unlocked right away so I missed most of it. So I thought I would share in case anyone is like me and interested.

@Russellt0228 I never really cared for the difficulty of EQ 1, but you're right -the world felt real and large because you actually travelled everywhere yourself --something that has really been lost in modern games.
