Most of the aesthetically irreplaceable and historic buildings in both Asbury Park and its neighbor, Ocean Grove, were destroyed by the corrupt lunatics that ran both towns in the 1970s and 1980s. Both towns revived somewhat during the real estate bubble of the 2000s.
People visiting have no idea of what a magical place this area once was.
In any other state, these buildings would have been preserved as historic treasures and landmarks.
