since no one else will, I'll play the role of amateur volcanologist.

If the date is correct, this was taken two days before Chaiten's largest eruption. It's understandably hard to get footage of the largest eruptions because those who try risk horrible death.

That being said, the Chaiten videos out there are the best footage since St Helens of a large eruption. It's the biggest one so far this century.
