Kubina for creativity characteristic image of fantastic dreams, to be performed on the conduct of the nerve stroke. In the work of Kubin inspired visionary and symbolic work of Francisco Goya, James Ensor, Odilon Redon, Edvard Munch and Max Klinger. Alfred Kubin mainly worked in the graph.
Since 1898 Kubin lived in Munich, where he attended a private art school of Ludwig Schmidt-Reutte. May 2, 1899 Kubin was enlisted in the Royal Academy of Painting at the rate of Nikolaus Gizisa. However, it soon dropped out Kubin. After several study tours in 1905, Kubin settled in 1906 in Vernshtayne-to-Inn in the old manor Tsvikledt (German Zwickledt), where he lived until his death along with his wife Hedwig Gryundler, the sister of writer Oscar A. T . Schmitz. Since 1928, Kubin was in correspondence with Carl Ressingom and Hermann Hesse.
In Tsvikledte born science fiction novel Kubin "The Other Side," which was published in 1909, with numerous illustrations of the author. Kubin describes in the book world of hallucinations and visions of doomsday. In my dream world the protagonist of the novel (graphic by profession, like Kubin), invited his school friend. In this world, he spends three years. The initial admiration gives way to the surrounding environment in the end in disgust.
Also in 1909 Kubin, along with Wassily Kandinsky, Alexei Jawlensky, Adolf Erbsle, Gabriele Munter, Marianne and Charles Hofer Verevkina co-founded the "New Munich Art Association", which became the forerunner of the "Blue Rider", and participated in his first exhibition in 1911 Mr. Alfred Kubin done illustrations for 60 books, including works of Fyodor Dostoevsky and Edgar Allan Poe, published prints albums (1921 "On the edge of life", 1918 "Dance of Death," 1941 "Adventures of a drawing pen.") In its artistic heritage thousands of pictures with a stylus.
Kubin died August 20, 1959 in Tsvikledte and was buried in the cemetery Vernshtayna. His works are in the State Assembly in Vienna graphical Albertina Museum in Verhneavstriyskom in Linz.
