From LaGrange Patch: Supporters from all over the western suburbs lined Spring Avenue in La Grange today to welcome home a local hero.

Marine Lance Cpl. Josh Misiewicz was greeted by a chorus of "welcome home Josh" and shouts of "hero" as the car that picked him up from O'Hare Airport arrived in front of his home in La Grange. Residents made signs and waved flags to welcome home the wounded veteran of the war in Afghanistan, who looked great today as he walked from the car to the porch of his home.

Misiewicz is a La Grange resident and former Lyons Township High School student and hockey player. In July, Misiewicz was seriously injured while serving in Afghanistan when he stepped on a bomb while out on patrol, which resulted in the loss of both legs and damaged his hearing.

Misiewicz has been receiving care and physical therapy at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. since he has returned to the states. He was granted permission to come home to be with his family for Christmas and take some time off from his physical recovery.

Since summer, the La Grange community has been holding fund-raisers to raise money to help with the Misiewicz family's expenses for his long-term care. To find out how to contribute and to see upcoming events, check out www.joinhandsforjosh.com.
