The Adopt-a-Highway program's annual "Fall Sweep" will take place the week of September 18-24. More than 900 groups currently participate in the Adopt-a-Highway program. During "Fall Sweep," volunteers help clean approximately 6,800 miles of Kentucky roadways. Since 1988, Kentuckians have been making a difference by promoting public environmental awareness and creating a sense of pride in our Bluegrass State. Adopt-a-Highway events like "Fall Sweep" also saves taxpayers money. Each year the Transportation Cabinet spends about $5 million and 200,000 worker hours removing litter statewide. Another Adopt-a-Highway event currently taking place is the annual "Make It Yours" art contest for young people ages 6-17. More details are available by logging onto http://Adopt-a-Highway.ky.gov.
