David Hayter is both Canadian & American. He was born in America. Both his parents are Canadian but were living here. David speaks Japanese because he lived in Japan during his teen years.

David Hayter is a great American voice actor but Japan is abolutley loaded with very good voice actors. Im sure many of them better then David in general especially when speaking Japanese. Think about all the anime they create. Japan is definetly a country full of very good voice actors. And i think they do a great job during action sequences with grunts and so on, they are very good.

@ekianjo Not bad after all.... but I not really like Jap version...American is the best. even if the game is japanese.

At least he speaks Japanese. He doesn't need a person to translate for him.
And it's the English version not just American's speak English. I thought it was very impressive that he would speak that for him through the whole video, even if he had an accent.

@Koyaanitsqatsi Because his japanese sucks. He has a very noticeable accent, no way he can pass for a japanese person. Besides, the typical voice for a hero like Snake in Japan is definitely in the lower tones. He is great for the american version, but he would not fit in the japanese version of the game.
