1315 The Battle of Crecy War Sword
12 th - 13thth Century.
Original found in the Hotel des Invalides, Paris.
Although dubbed "The Crecy War Sword", waged on August 26th 1346, this piece actually dates from 1250-1300. While similar medieval swords were found throughout the 13th c., shorter versions were commonly used by the English archers during the 100 years War. The most readily available description of the sword can be found on page 48 (plate Xa.13) of Oakeshotts Records of the Medieval Sword, who dates the sword to the thirteenth century.
