@mookieisfraud Oh you mean Big Bill Broonzy did the original of "It hurts me too"
-
suppose you heard this and had no idea who it was(hard to do I know....)what would you think?this is great
credit where it is due
-
@ independent George. You are a dumb-ass hater and I would bet American money you cant play the radio. SHUT UP and listen!
-
I saw SRV 5 times, even on the midnight blues cruise with Pine top Perkins in NOLA, and he was wonderful, but to say Clapton doesnt have the soul is ludicrous. Clapton is more reserved , but can cut headswith the best of the best. Remembering how much soul albert King could put in just one note, less may be better
-
@tormentor91 the difference i see between SRV and clapton is that SRV always seemed to give 110% and therefore alot of that "soul" would come out of him, i can't say the same about clapton, thats one of the reasons i consider SRV to be the better guitarist
-
@IndependentGeorge76 you couldn't have said it better, always thought the same too but no matter who you say that to, they just look at you like your an idiot
-
@IndependentGeorge76 "None of the soul"? You know little IMO...

elmore james cover? how many times am i gonna have to tell people... IT HURTS ME TOO IS A SONG BY TAMPA RED, NOT ELMORE JAMES! even tho elmore covered it, tampa made it
mookieisfraud 1 year ago
@mookieisfraud of course it's also important, who wrote the song, but elmore james made it a blues classic

@mookieisfraud Tampa Red first recorded this, you're right. however this arrangement is basically a straight cover of Elmores recording. and not a patch on it, in my honest opinion. clearly i'm going to get shot down here, but clapton to me always sounds like a weak version of the artists he so clearly aspires to sound like. there's always somthing missing in his sound, to me. like he has all the licks, but none of the soul...

@IndependentGeorge76 you're right, many clapton fans would like to shoot you now ;)
I respect your opinion, although i think this talking about not having soul is a quite regular argument against any "modern" guitarist (post 50s or so). I think every guitarist has soul in his playing, it simply sometimes differs from what you want to hear, or maybe your prejudices about an artist influence your hearing (I for example had that problem with SRV)
