I test some antennas I had laying around for the best reception from an amatuer radio 10 meter beacon across town (VE3TEN). The 10 meter cb radio was not altered during the tests and I used the same mount for every antenna except for the Wilson which never left its location or ws adjusted at any time. The tests demonstrate the performance differences with Super Antenna MP1 vs. Wilson 1000 vs. Everhardt Super Tiger vs. Firestick KW-7. I hope you find the results interesting.

Information about the antennas:

Super Antenna MP1
MP-1 Portable HF Antenna (7 thru 50Mhz)- QRP to 300watts.

The MP-1 will fit into a briefcase with a K2, FT817 or any other small rig. Its universal mount allows it to be set up on most any object that is handy at any angle.

WILSON 1000
Guaranteed to perform better than your current base loaded antenna
62" tapered stainless steep whip
Includes 17' of coax cable with a PL-259 end
Magnet mount allows installation on any metal surface
High-quality base loaded magnet mount antenna at an affordable price
Removable coil for safe storage & garage entrance
3000 watt capacity
Weather channel compatible
Constructed of high-impact thermoplastic
Two year warranty

Everhardt Super Tiger STT4
"Super Tiger" "1 Full Wave Length "

Top Load Tunable Tip
Power Rating 1500 Watts
Includes the Weather Band
18 gauge solid wire
Standard 3/8 ' Threaded Base
"Industries Most Copied Antenna Design"

Firestik KW-7
7 Ft (213cm) 3/4 wave rated @ 700 watts
-Proven hi-performance coil design; rugged solid-fiberglass core.

The "KW" antennas are compatible with autos, trucks, vans, motorcycles and ATV's in a single antenna configuration when metallic ground plane is available. Or, they may be used in dual (co-phased) configuration on any vehicle made from any type of material. Like all CB antennas, the "KW" antennas require fine-tuning (SWR) in their final mounting location. The loading coil on all "KW" antennas is easily accessable for precise SWR adjustments.

All "KW" antennas exceed the requirements of any CB radio, new or old. Aside from the hi-performance loading coil that maximizes the transmit/receive functions of your CB, these top-loaded antennas will also receive the NOAA emergency weather alert and national weather broadcasts for radios with those features.

  • @jbrcar You must be a real moron. I am listening to a ham repeater... no transmitting is done in order to calculate the gain of the antennas. You really should open an ARRL book and figure out what you are talking about before trolling peoples Youtube and spreading poison. There is no law against monitoring beacons nor are the freebands enforced anymore and for more hater food, the S9 is sold to a non licenced operator in Spain!

  • Have you tried testing a 102 inch stainless steel whip against the MP-1 and if you have what was your results?

  • @skipshooter782342 No I don't have one tho the 102 would probably win but not tuneable all over the bands!

  • @skipshooter782342 i'd be testing it against the Firestik KW-7 since it is my current top performer.

  • @skipshooter782342 not yet but a 1/4 whip isn't adjustable to the same bandwidths the MP1 is capable of... and its very portable!

  • Antennas I think are difficult to compare. It would have been better if all antennas were mounted the same way. The Wilson 1000 was mounted on a different ground plane than the other antennas so I would take its results with a grain of salt.

  • ah come on man... tune the antennas the way there suppost to be and intall each antenna on a car all in the same spot and test them one after another. the wilson is the only antenna u cant compare in cuz its a mag mount. unless u can mount it in the same spot to. thumbs down on your test man..those antennas werent designed to work that way, so its not a real word comparision.

  • I would test the Wilson 1000 from the same spot that the other antennas were tested. I think the table acts like a ground plane so the antennas have better gain.

  • @teflondon91 I would love to see how a Predator 10k compares to these antennas. I've been running the 9" Bad To The Bone version for over 10 years and I think its even better than the dual 102"s that I ran before that. Something else thats nice about the Predators is that if you brake it you dont got to buy a new antenna. You just order the broken part. You can completely rebuild them from the ground up.. kinda cool

  • @strumem90 Don't mind him, his pocket protector is probably getting in the way. Plus, I think that he became a HAM because CBers kept putting his head up his ass... oh, wait, he must have forgot to remove it! I am a HAM and I feel like reinserting it whenever he decides to remove it.

  • @funnyman1972 Oh, I also forgot to mention something else: The Wilson's coil is small diameter and mounted in plastic, which will make the Q go to shit, so this is going to equate to heat and losses.

73, John, NV6R an Extra class HAM and antenna designer with 40+ countries on 75m from the mobile; well over 200 on 20m-10m.

  • @funnyman1972 I am sorry, you are wrong in one respect: The Wilson will not win, period. For one, it uses a capacitive coupling to ground, which is very inefficient -- ground quality is paramount to any antennas performance. For another, even though the other antennas are brought to resonance by a helical coil, they still will perform like an antenna of their perspective height; 3/4 wave of wire in a 7ft package is still a 7ft antenna.

  • Mounting location will have more to do with it than anything. Your ground plane for the wilson 1000 is rectangular so it is receiving best from the ends of the rectangle.Mont the mp1 in the same place as the wilson and I bet the wilson will win.

  • @jbrcar you're a tool. get a life hammy. why do you hams feel the need to ATTEMPT to be superior? 99% of you tower raising buttwads can't even work on your own equipment. go ahead report him,it'll make you feel like you've done a good deed and then i'll send him my old "little" heater just to fuck with you for the rest of your pathetic "life" . galaxy400 runnin up in ya. and if that didn't work i'll run my lil 3kw s-10 north and make your whole territory cringe. go die.
