Wildlife in North Australia Series - Possum Pt 4. Filmed at rural home in the garden, in the Northern Territory of Australia. In this part 4 of this series you will see a Possum taken by surprised by us and frozen stiff (which is a bit funny ). This video is a part of a wildlife series that I will add to as I collect the footages.

The possum is a family member of around 70 of the arboreal marsupial species, with the possum group having 26 animal families from 6 different families. Being of the marsupial family. Interestingly, through research conducted, I read that throughout evolution of the world, when the southern hemisphere was once joined, it is believed that the marsupials orginated in north America and gradually spread to south America before making it's way to Australia through the Anartica!

Amongst the family of marsupials, other well known members include the Koala, kangaroo, wallaby, bandicoot and wombat (just a few mentioned). The arboreal marsupial family have nocturnal activity and agile climbing charactoristics. The tree residing residents are found commonly around Australia and adapted well in urban areas.

Once traded for it's fur by early European settlers, the Common Brushtail Possum was introduced to New Zealand to breed for it's fur commodity. Today, the Common Brushtail Possum is considered a pest in New Zealand because of it's rapid population growth, according to Wikipedia since 1996 a blend of possum fur and merino wool was developed by a New Zealand fashion label and calling the material marinomink.
