  • Archbishop Donald Wuerl has been named as Cardinal by Pope Benedict.

  • It must be a tremendeous sense of honour to attend Holy Mass in the Shrine, the next time i'm in DC i intend to do just that!!

  • It was a truely inspirational mass. I highly recommend it.

  • I wish they would use the origional high altar in the round, like they did for the first time in 40 years last year right around penticost, it was a full pontifical high mass with all kinds of people, they had a bishop from somewhere west be the celebrant, and had about 20 or so attendant priests and all kinds of servers, many choirs including some with school kids and all the major tridentine mass societys helping out.

I wish they would do one again soon.

  • What song is played at the recessional?

  • I once served as Sub-Deacon for the Byzantine Hierarchical Divine Liturgy with the Roumanian Greek Catholic Bishop of the U.S. in this basilica. It was one of the first times that Greek Catholics and Greek Orthodox were graciously given access to the upper church for liturgy. It was one of my lifes treasured moments.

  • I love the Basilica. Its my fav. church...=)

  • WOW! Goose bumps!

  • Actually, the hymn is, "The Day of Resurrection." But they used the same tune.

  • The Basilica is the one place in Washington DC where I always stop when I am there. It is an awe-inspiring building and my most poignant memory was to be there for Mass on the Saturday afternoon that Pope John Paul II passed away - it was the most stirring Mass that I have ever attended. Sad in one way but joyous in knowing that his work on earth had ended and that he was at peace with our Father.
