I heard Willie Clancy play this in a local in Milltown Malbay in 1972. Tom Murphy, J.C. Talty of the Tulla Ceili Band, and John Maroney were there, among others. Murphy recited an abridged Emmet's Speech from the Dock, after driving Maroney home, he sold us a jar of poteen."Don't drink it straight, but put it in your tea!' was his advice. Clancy's playing would break your heart. It was one of the most beautiful and sensual pieces of music I've ever heard. Mary O'Hara has a recording of it also.

just me again...just thinking about the family and their struggles. What a fantastic song for the goodbye that my husband made that day...but they'll always be remembered. Fond thoughts to all of you who like this music. Thanks for posting.

Thank you so much for posting this song.
We first heard this when we were visiting my husband's old family homestead in Tiercork, County Meath, Ireland in 2002. I stayed with the car and heard it on the radio when my husband walked about the remaining standing barn where his maternal Grandfather "Richard" was born and liced for 12 years. He left Ireland for the USA at that age and spent the rest of his life working in New Jersey with the Public Service Company. The music was perfect for us!
