Elephant Butte Lake is the largest lake in the state of New Mexico, and attracts thousands of visitors each year for its fishing, camping, and other water activities. But it lacks the full support of the state of New Mexico. In contrast, Lake Amistad in Del Rio, Texas benefits greatly from its state support, as it hosts several bass fishing tournaments year round, attracting thousands of visitors from across the nation, and generating economic growth for the community.
