The United Nations General Assembly is scheduled to convene this Friday.
The Palestinian President says he will request a full UN membership for a Palestinian State. But The United States has already announced it will veto the move.
Our correspondent in Jerusalem went to find out what people on the street think of these latest developments.
On Monday, Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas arrived in New York, on his way to the United Nations. He said that at the General Assembly on Friday, he will present a request for a full UN membership for a Palestinian state.
The United States threatens to veto such a resolution, saying it could harm the peace process with Israel.
How do people in Jerusalem feel about the American intervention? Do the Palestinians deserve their own state?
[Ilya Volkov, Jewish Jerusalem Resident]:
"Whether a Palestinian state is established or not does not really matter to Israel. In Israel, the Jews first and foremost need to walk a right path. They have to do what they have to do. This is an issue of land. The Jews have an ancestral right over this land."
[Michael Sud, Ukrainian Musician]:
"I think the Palestinians already have an independent state as the state of Jordan. Secondly, the Palestinians can organize their independent state in the Gaza Strip, with borders and all features of an independent state. ..with their money, with their army and government."
[Michal Abraham, Jewish Artist]:
"I think that without the United States on our side -the Israeli side- in this matter, a disaster will befall the Zionist vision, the State of Israel and the Jewish people in the world."
[Albert Biton, Jewish Jerusalem Resident]:
"We should live together (with the Palestinians) and reach an agreement. Because in wars there are no winners. The Palestinians deserve to live just as you or I or anyone else in the world deserves to live."
[Shalom Benchimol, Jew From Brazil]:
"If they (the Americans) veto I think things will continue to be the same. I think we need a change for the world...We have to wait and believe. Everything will be alright."
The American veto can prevent the Palestinians from receiving a full UN membership, but it cannot prevent the General Assembly from upgrading the Palestinian Authority's status from an "Entity" to a "Non Member State."

Obama says that the "peace process" may suffer if Palestine is allowed statehood. That's BS and everyone knows it. What peace process? Does Israel have something to offer in any peace negotiations? Someone should stand up to Zionism and do the right thing.
