This video demonstrates how to do a proper lubrication on your two stage snowblower. The guinea pig is an MTD 8/26 but most drive mechanisms are very similar. Errata: I continually call the large flat, silver disk a "friction wheel" when it should be called the DRIVE PLATE.

  • best to use general purpose grease on the bushings it will last alot longer and reduce ware alot better then oil will

  • @KevinMillard68 true, but disassembly is required to do that. the oil film will remain long enough to provide lubrication until the next yearly maintenance...

  • @majorxlr8n nope the oil wont last and you dont have to dissassemble to get the grease in the bushings all you need is a baby surenge fill it with grease and inject it in works really slick do it all the time.. and best sutff for the axels is anti seize it will out last any grease out there been there done that for years as well , never failed yet ..

i did like your video some good info as well. home users really need to take care of there stuff and dont need to know alot to do it.

  • @KevinMillard68 GREAT IDEA!! never thought of that. I have been using the Lithium spray lately to do the axle bushings. Now - when I repair auger gearboxes, rake shafts get a slathering of anti-seize. that stuff NEVER comes off. Thank you for the tips!!! And yes, homeowners really need to be more cognizant of maintenance on their OPE. Even checking oil seems to be a passing fad, based on the dozens of seized/failed engines I've seen the past 8 or 9 years... PEACE!

  • Put some paper or saran wrap on the friction wheel to avoid getting oil on it.

  • @drwatson1234 - thanks for a good tip! a thin piece of cardboard works too
