The Hillmen were a bluegrass group, consisting of Chris Hillman (mand/voc), Vern Gosdin (guit/lead voc), Rex Gosdin (bass/voc) and Don Parmley (banjo/voc). They recorded one fantastic album in 1963. It consists mostly of traditionals and standards, but also includes stunning versions of Dylan's "When The Ship Comes In" and Guthrie's "Ranger's Command". Hillman & Parmley provided some formidable instrumental chops, whilst the Gosdins provided a solid rhythmic base and fantastic vocal harmonies.

Chris Hillman is the best known of this group, as shortly afterwards he became the bassist for folk-rock pioneers The Byrds.

@MrAugustus88:I don't know if he is German or not, He was born and raised in California.Chris did play mandolin in this band,not sure if he did any singing.He also did the lead vocals and played guitar in The Desert Rose Band. He tours and sings now with Herb Pedersen.

@VibrantNTingling I ordered The Hillmen cd off the Walmart.com web site.I checked to see if they had any more, but they are out of stock.They still have Running Wild,Out of the Woodwork,and Rice,Rice,Hillman & Pedersen in stock.They are very good cds to.
