Until 1982 Woomera was a restricted military base used primarily for testing long range missiles and rockets during the Cold War. At the height of its operations there were 6,000 people living there - today there are just 200. But it remains the largest land based range in the world and hosts a wide spectrum of ground, air and space activities.
@SepradistPhantom thanks for the insight! we're not so smart when it comes to this sort of stuff, so to us they're all pretty much just really cool, giant boys toys! ;-)
(But we DID read some of the signs and found it pretty interesting! Went to White Sands Rocket Base in the USA a few months back as well so look out for that video coming up as well!)

The one with the christmas lights on it was probably one of the only ones not designed specifically for military application. It was the British designed Black Arrow, a satellite launcher. As of 2012, the UK is the only nation on Earth to have successfully developed, then ABANDONED satellite launch capability. Still, nice video - would love to visit myself one day.
