UFCW hosted a press conference today to release a new report detailing which corporations have the most employees receiving public benefits from the state of Ohio.
Wal-mart placed at the top of the list, by virtue of having the most employees on Medicaid and Food Stamps.
The first speaker in the video is UFCW Local 1059 Political Director Allie Petonic. Next up is State Sen. Nina Turner, the State Rep. Dan Stewart and finally State Rep. Tony Yuko. There are plans to introduce legislation later this session that will mandate that the state regularly publish such statistics.
The report is available online here: http://www.progressohio.org/page/-/Documents/OH%20PUB%20BEN%20BY%20Employer.pdf
Kroger...with all their UFCW workers are ranked #4. When Big Bear went out in 2004 I was given a copy of the local contract for Kroger and encouraged to apply by family members...but I couldn't wait 4 years and 3 months for prescription drug coverage. I was given FREE prescription coverage from Giant Eagle after just 3 months...plus a pension and profit sharing

Didn't hear the mention (I MAY have missed it) of the corporate citizenship of healthcare insurers, major healthcare providers, and the legal establishment. If the pay of the top 20% of those executives were leveled down to that of their public-sector counterparts, healthcare costs would be MUCH less overall immediately.
