I consider myself quite fortunate to have enjoyed seeing Ed Blackwell play live at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, with George Adams' band.

Big stick fumble at 50 seconds.

I had the great fortune of playing with Ed Blackwell at Lu and Charlie's in the french Quarter in 1976! He was a great improviser and a jazz legend all over the world.

@d23myte ed loved his sister she was a big influence on him becoming a drummer she was a tap dancer and he would imitate her with his hands or sticks from there on he would always approach the drums from the perspective of a dancer listen very close and you'll hear ed dances on the drums

ed is playing two different time signatures at the same time up to three or four if you count what he dose with the hi-hats and bass drum and he cross hands his solo in between his rhythmic solo he's the only drummer i know where as if you blind fold test other drummers some one is bound to say is that three drummers or four

Ed Blackwell was--and still is--The Definitive link between Congo Square and The Congo. One of the most original and consistently musical drummers who ever lived!!

His daughter is unjustly incarcerated, serving 20 without parole for killing her abusive boyfriend who was attacking her. Google Nearin Blackwell; I run her My Space and Face Book pages. I wish someone with some money would help her with a decent lawyer.
