For those of you who love this story, but don't have 4+ hours to spare... The War Games - In 10 Minutes!

Officially the third longest Doctor Who story at just over 4 hours in duration, presented here for your enjoyment is a 1 minute per episode cut down of this Classic Who story.

The War Games, Patrick Troughton's final story, and featuring revelations from the Doctor's mysterious past, was originally aired over 3 months from 19 April to 21 June 1969. It has long been a favourite of mine, however due to its length I have only watched it in full probably 4 or 5 times. This video is for anyone else who would like to enjoy the show, but don't have a whole afternoon to set aside to do it.

Suggestions welcome for the next "Doctor Who in X Minutes"... but it will probably be Caves...

  • The Daleks' Master Plan would be a good one for an X Minutes installment. Trial of a Time Lord, too.

  • @aperson22222 Thank-you for the suggestions! I had considered MasterPlan... but as there is only 3 surviving full eps, plus a splattering of clips, I'm not sure how it would "feel", with the mixture of still and moving images. Will certainly give it more thought. Trial as a whole was an option I hadn't considered, but now you mention it, I think it would work quite well! Currently working on another WHO project, but will hopefully get onto another Xminutes soon.

  • 10 episodes in 10 minutes. I've happily watched all 10 episodes in the space of an afternoon with beer, then again, the following afternoon.

  • @borgduck Pat Troughton is a sentimental favourite of mine, and it hurts that so many of his episodes are gone... but even I don't know if I could watch the War Games, all the way through, twice in as many days! :} As much as anything I hope this cut will encourage people to watch the full version. It was a great send off for a great Doctor.

  • well so much so quick, its like food with no taste or sex without feeling

  • faced with the chance to destroy all the Daleks (though the Cult of Skaro would still have been there--There's always that one last survivor rebuilding the race, isn't there?) and he couldn't bring himself to do it again. In "The End of Time" he once again faced the chance to destroy all the Time Lords and he felt he HAD to do it again.

  • @thecosmichobo I started with "Rose" and think I didn't watch a classic episode till after "The End of Time" so it seems natural to me. I would watch Nine and Ten mourn for the lost civilization and find it poignant. Then I'd watch "The War Games" or "Trial of a Time Lord" or "The Five Doctors" and think "Huh--They had it coming."

I did notice that both Nine's and Ten's final stories gave the Doctor a chance to repeat or reverse his Time War actions. In "Parting of the Ways" he was once again

  • @aperson22222 The only time the Time Lords weren't really being antagonists was The Three Doctors... though I can't say I liked what became of them in the new series...

  • I believe) that I realized that the Time Lords were more often antagonists than allies.

  • @thecosmichobo True, Master Plan would be badly compromised by the unavailable clips. Damned lost clips; they make it so hard to enjoy the first two Doctors. As for Trial, now that I think of it it would seem to be a natural follow-up to this one: The Doctor is once again forced by the Time Lords to defend his actions on pain of punishment. I started with the revival and it wasn't until "The End of Time" (another likely candidate, since it's such a long-runner--the longest revival story yet,
