In an incredibly touching moment at TNG Exposed at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, April 28, 2012 in Calgary Alberta, Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher from Star Trek: The Next Generation) speaks to the crowd and the entire principal cast about leaving the show. Aaron Douglas (Chief Tyrol from Battlestar Galactica) introduces the question.

key phrase: "when he was 18". In Wil's own words, he was a kid. Kids make stupid mistakes, and he lamented it for years. He was a big enough man to recognize it and make peace with his friends. Star Trek taught humanity was always capable of redemption and that is exactly what he deserves now.

Man!! pick one or two from this cast. Please and do a spinoff... IDK maybe something like Lavar Burton commanding the Rhode Island. Or frakes the captain of the Titan. I know SO many people are just so taken by the new Star Treks w/JJ abrahams ... but the way DS9 and Voyager ended there could of been at least 4 ways to take the series. Taking it all the way back was a step in the wrong direction .. just IMO.

Wil has been so honest about everything, and he's a great guy, a sweet guy and an eloquent writer/speaker and he's shared so much of his life with us. so he made a mistake when he was a kid, i know i've made tons more and we all have made mistakes, but ours don't get media attention. it's easy to judge others by different standards. everybody should get over it already. Wil is one of the best people out there because he's kind and humble and awesome.

Completely agree with your second paragraph, but the crew of TNG actually tended to do a lot better in maintaining their careers - if that's what they wanted to do - than most of the original crew. Wil's pretty clear that he wanted to go to college and have a semblance of a "normal" life as opposed to continuing to play the Hollywood game. Between "Stand By Me" and TNG he'd made his money, played memorable roles and had nothing more to prove. :)
