"Knockin' On Heaven's Door" revised by Cyril {Sooper}Cooper

This song was originally written & sung by Bob Dylan in 1973..& slightly revised & resung by Guns n' Roses in 1991. I luv'd this song the 1st time i heard it..i was 19 at the time. I had recently drifted away from the Lord..relapsed into my boozin' & pot-smokin'..sippin' on a brew at 1 of our ol' local pubs when some1 played it on the jukebox. WoW, I tho't..what a beautiful song! I related to it immediately as it seemed to vocalize what I had been endevourin' since my mid teens, back in "69". Every now n' then thru'out the yrs, I would once again hear this song..& it would touch a chord in my heart .. I could always envision myself standin' at Heaven's Door & Knockin'..'cause been orphanized at such a tender age, I never ever felt at home in this ol' world anymore .. I felt unloved, uncared for & unwanted..in the way. Just wanted to hurry up n' die & get to Heaven where I knew I'd be Unconditionally Loved & Cared for..where I hoped to be reunited with my Dad, Big Bill, who drowned when I was only 3 1/2 .. my oldest brother George, who also drowned when I was only 6 .. my Tender-Loving & Beautiful Mother, Pearl, who was taken violently away from us when I was only 4 months shy of 12. A couple o' months B4 turning 20, I lost my 2nd oldest brother, Victor. He was taken from us by house fire .. he was 10 yrs my senior & had become my father figure & also my best friend. This song helped me thru' what I considered the most difficult time in my life .. I so wanted to also leave this lonely empty world. "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" had become my theme song..i played it whenever I drank .. longing for a family reunion behind "Heaven's Door".
I was never fond of the lyrics of the verses tho'..1st of all, I couldn't understand it's relation to the chorus so I couldn't relate to it. It wasn't till just 'bout a month ago I heard this ol' familiar song once again .. I picked up my guitar, turned my amp on & began strummin' along with it...singin' along with the chorus. After the song was over, it was like an inspiration came upon me ... an Annointin' .. I could feel it & it was compelin' me to revise the versus..rewrite sum'thin' from my own heart! I immediately picked up a pen n' paper & began to write..it was just comin' to me like a flow .. I was feelin' so excited & full of anticipation! I turned my mike on..began strummin' & sang the new God-given lyrics for the 1st time!!! I loved it..my wife n' kids loved it! MY brother came for a visit n' I sang it for him...he was overwhelmed..his eyes teared & he clapped at the finish, praisin' God!
Now..I want to share it with my family, relatives, friends & whoever will want to hear it. I hope & pray it touches your Heart, soul & makes an impact on even your mind ... I pray that it Blesses U as much as it has blest me. God Bless & remember..God loves n' cares 4 U & ... So Do I!!!
