Sega Channel

Today I review one of my favorite video game accessories: The Sega Channel. This adapter from your cable provider plugged into the cartridge slot of your Sega Genesis and would allow you to download 50 games per month for $14.95 per month. Each month, the 50 old games would cycle out and you would get 50 new games to play. It was way ahead of it's time and gave me some great gaming memories growing up in the mid 90's.

I never knew Sega did this, very cool sir.

The last thing I remember anything remotley to this was Play Cable for the Intellivision back in the early 80's and even had Hall Of Fame Baseball player Mickey Mantle as their spokesman for it. = )

sega should make a game on a modern console called sega channel... it would be like a clone of playing the original.. and would feature piles of sega channel games especially exclusives. Sort of like a thematic genesis collections.. that would be cool.

Sega were ahead of everyone in the console market and arcades, Dreamcast is one of the reasons why console online gaming is so big now on PS3 and XBOX 360 as Sega had it years before anyone else for consoles, the only other option was a PC for online gaming.

Man, Sega Channel takes me back!! We use to wake up at like 5 am on the first of every month so we could see the new games before going to school!! When you brought up contests, I remember they had one for Primal Rage!! I think only 3 dinosaurs were playable during the contest and whoever got a high score or furthest in the game or something won the arcade machine!!

Good times, good times!!! I'll always be grateful to the Sega Channel for introducing me to many games I still love today!!

It's kind of depressing knowing SEGA  CHANNEL is inactive :( Just knowing that no one will ever be able to experience it again. Now those adapters just bring memories.

*mom* as a mom sega has put in a lockout feature for video game features simple and understand just 5 game catagories the ones that i dont want my kids to play i just lock them out i want control for what my kids are playing and the sega chanel i have it *turns head* ok kids now change to the porno channel ive got the lotion lmao XD

@DlNKYDANA SEGA channel & the SEGA CD add-on. This just shows U how far ahead of the game SEGA was compared to its main competitior at the time nintendo. Playstation was still a few years away from release. I would ♥ to see SEGA make a console again but unless one of the "BIG Threee" goes under its not likely to happen
