I really think it is impossible to say that someone can play this any better. Starker's version of Kodaly is absolutely legendary.

i felt like he was ready to explode towards to the end.....sighh

0:41 smug look lol

@rookitchen now if you could just find something worth playing.

talk about hitting the lottery on talent...congrats on being the second luckiest cellist out there starker...

@DurpenHeimer Yeah I believe it. My private tutor told me that in order to play this, he had to be able to play all of Bach's Cello Suites by memory (of course) play all the popper etudes perfectly, play Haydn's Cello Concertos and Dvorak's Cello Concertos by memory (I think there were more requirements than that). He still has trouble playing it... and to perform it, he would most likely have to practice again for a year.

@Yahshuaismylamp This is considered one of the most difficult pieces ever written for cello. It's going to take a while. First movement took me nearly a year to play decently. Still can't play it perfect, I have no idea how Starker does it.

Sounds like 3 freight trains! Amazing!

Woops I mis-worded the last comment, but you get the point lol.
I love the part at about 1:10 where he opens his eyes with this look like "Oh yeah, I am playing the Kodaly Sonata... cool." So effortless.
