A beautiful song from her first album. This was also the title track of the album.

The song is inspired by the traditional folk song "The Ballad Of Lizzie Wan".

Lyrics:

I've pulled down my lace and the chintz.
Oh, do you know you have the face of a genius?
I'll send your love to Zeus.
Oh, by the time you read this,
I'll be well in touch.

I'm giving it all in a moment or two.
I'm giving it all in a moment, for you.
I'm giving it all, giving it, giving it.
This kicking here inside
Makes me leave you behind.
No more under the quilt
To keep you warm.
Your sister I was born.
You must lose me like an arrow,
Shot into the killer storm.

You and me on the bobbing knee.
Didn't we cry at that old mythology he'd read!
I will come home again, but not until
The sun and the moon meet on yon hill.

  • First song that captured me was, "Wuthering Heights," Then I heard this haunting tune. WOW, also is rather 'gothic.' Such dramatic tunes rather than gloomy and disconcerting to the soul; instead teaches us with grim and stern warnings of how life is/can be instead of judging and condemning. Been a fan of Kate Bush since 2009. TY for uploading this mv.

  • @179rich Yeah. o.o It's true.

A brother and sister fall in love. He gets her pregnant. She kills herself to save him and their family from the shame an incestuous relationship can bring.

Kind of strange, but really sad. This song is supposed to be her suicide note to her brother.

  • Such a beautiful song....

  • This song always reminds me of a Welsh farmhouse right by the coast that I always stay in during the summer.

It takes me back to the lonely dark green woods, shaded with the sun's rays struggling through.

I had many a walk through there while listening to this song

  • Magical.
