History Channel, HOOKED: ILLEGAL DRUGS AND HOW THEY GOT THAT WAY
HOOKED explores the world of illegal drugs, meeting with pharmacologists and scientists to learn exactly what effect they have on us and exploring the social and legislative changes that have transformed (and, some would argue, created) the drug culture of the 20th century. Outspoken advocates on both sides of the "war on drugs" illuminate this polarizing issue, and fascinating accounts and artifacts illustrate the role of drugs throughout history.

Marijuana and Methamphetamine, HOOKED: ILLEGAL DRUGS ep.1
In a 4 part series investigating the history of drug use, we begin our trip tracing the rise of marijuana and synthetic amphetamines. Marijuana, from the Indian hemp plant, has been used worldwide as a source of rope, cloth, and paper; its medicinal qualities were first documented 4,000 years ago in China. But it's best known as the drug of choice of the 1960s. During WWII, US troops were given an estimated 200 million amphetamines to fight drowsiness and battle fatigue, and they're still used to fight depression.

  • @ohmally34 The drinking age should be 18 anyway.

  • @launwatch Geuss what more people are addicted to alcohol then weed weed doesn't have anything in it that makes it physically addictive the majority of people that are in rehab for marijuana were arrested for having it and they had to chose between a harsh punishment or rehab and when your in rehab u r considered a addict what would you chose. 28% of people in rehab for weed use once a year only 17% of people in rehab actually checked themselves in.

  • @intencedarkness9 I think it should be treated like alcohol accept u should be 18 to use it

  • "Until 1914 most people believed the US Constitution upheld one's right to ingest any substance one wanted"

More accurately stated - Until 1914, merely one year after the Federal Reserve & the IRS were established, most people correctly understood the US Constitution

From the time of the end of the Revolutionary War until 1913, the international, central bankers continually attempted to establish themselves within America...only to be defended against by heroic American leaders

  • The Industrial Revolution's "Fat Cats" that emerged as the nation's wealthiest men, betrayed America by opening the door to the bankers while forming a partnership with the Rothschild owners of the Bank of England... the British rulers whom were well experienced with the extremely lucrative, illicit, drug trade, from when British rulers controlled Opium

They established the Federal Reserve & merely 1 year later, no longer did most people believe the US Constitution upheld one's right to ingest

  • any substance one wanted. While drugs are illegal, their trade is extremely lucrative. Notice how the entire process of making drugs illegal, involved the same old trick that government has been using repeatedly for the purpose of advancing their tyrannical authoritarianism... "problem, reaction, solution"

    1) The Problem - they fabricate a fearsome, hate worthy, dangerous villain. In this case, drugs

    2) The Reaction - the people feel threatened, vulnerable, insecure and/or hatefully disgusted..

  • in need of, & desiring, daddy government's protection

    3) The Solution - make a prophet of Benjamin Franklin - "they who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, will reap for themselves neither liberty nor security"

Neither have they been liberated of me, nor could they have been made anymore secure

Invite tyranny did they do... yet, I labor in their best interests

  • how many ODs or deaths have happened after smoking pot? NONE? alcohol? sure, cocaine? you bet, heroin? yep....meth? of couse...and yet marijuana is illegal..

  • legalize meth!!
