Bijli Mahadev is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Bijli in Hindi Language means Lightening and Mahadev is a name for Lord Shiva. As such Bijli Mahadev is meant as The Temple of Lord Shiva where lightening strikes. Infect here almost every year the lightening strikes the temple. The story is this that at Temple, there is high mast of Pine tree stem which is used as a symbol of Temple and is flagged. This mast attracts Lightening This temple is also at much height at Hill top and in winter it is closed and abandoned. In summer when it is opened, it is found that the lightening had stuck the mast and the Lord Shiva Lingam is broken to pieces and pieces get scattered here and there in temple premises. The priest of temple and the locals who gather at the opening, trace out all the pieces of Shiva Lingam, join those all with pure Butter. As the temperature even in summer is below the melting point of butter, the pieces join and Lord Shiva Lingam is shaped properly. Till all the pieces are not found, the temple worshipping does not start and ultimately all the pieces are traced some how. This tradition is going on since centuries and as such the temple is very famous. Further the temple is actually very beautiful with old wood carving make is very impressive for the visitors. The temple is at Hill top and a plain ground is there make it very scenic, the panorama around is very magical and one call see the Manali and Rohtang Tops, Kullu City and Bhoonter Airfields from here. The place is worth seeing. One has to track on foot and climb the top of the hill for about three four kilometers.
