  • I borrowed one from my brother. He lost the remote. Is there a way to turn off the counter display without a remote? I cannot seem to figure this out. Help, please.

  • I do not think this has any control on the unit that will turn off the on screen displays. However, a sony universal remote that you can program for 8mm vcrs might work out.

  • cool im looking for a nice 8mm vcr since i have a ton of tapes, but i dont wanna just go by a 8mm camera because i already have a nice mini dv one

  • Yeah, I am thrilled to finally get an 8mm VCR. I got this one off of ebay for a steal. I got the MiniDV cameras too, they are cool.

  • how much was this one there usally around 100 - 200 on ebay

  • I got it for 299.99, came in original box with all papers and remote. I was the only bidder.

  • @Nernvoxx did you ever figure out the answer- i'm looking into that now

  • All of the mechanisms sound very similar to my Canon 8MM camcorder.

  • Okay where can I buy one?? I have a million hi8 tapes lol!!

  • Very nice Hi8 VCR! I remember the sounds of this VCR's mechanism - an early 90s Sony Handycam I once had did the same noises, so indeed it's a camcorder mechanism used there.

  • Were can I buy one? 4 stars

  • Is there a way to manually adjust the tracking on these players? Problem being my tapes were recorded on a sony camcorder that had been repaired. Looks like the dude may have overtracked the camcorder cuz the sound fades in and out on 3 tapes but plays perfectly fine on the 4th tape. The difference being before and after the repair. Any solutions? Auto-tracking just don't seem to cut it.

  • @Nernvoxx

I know this is over two years old but...

Any Sony VCR remote with three command modes (VTR1, VTR2, VTR3) selectable by a slide control should be able to remotely control your Sony Video 8 VCR.

  • @Nernvoxx don't they usually disappear after like 5 seconds or so? Or are you talking about the counter on the VCR's little clock display?

  • there is a rare model that can but its hard to get and if you find it its more expensive than a Hi8 vcr usaully around 600 to 700 and it can also be a mobil video player to.
