Footage of a ladybug larva eating aphids.

http://www.elperfecto.com/2011/05/03/turnip-flowers-are-edible-seeds

What do ladybug larva and pupa look like? I'll show you the different stages of the Ladybug life cycle, including closeup footage of ladybugs eating aphids. Keep watching to the end to see the ladybugs protecting the garden by eating pests!

All the action occurred on Purple Top turnips in my Arkansas garden.

  • Wow, that last ladybug larva had the head of a regular ladybug, and the feet looked similar too : ) Maybe the tail gets used up in making the adult wings!

  • @Helioforge Good observations... you might be right. To me, the metamorphosis from larva to adult is still somewhat mysterious. That larva tail does seem to go away. Maybe the tail is an energy reserve or bag of protein for making new structures in the adult's body.
