The backburner has no downside. When you fight a backburner pyro, you can't rely on the lack of airblast b/c the pyro can still airblast. Also, not every class can take advantage of the lack of airblast. The airblast was implemented to increase the skill ceiling of the pyro, giving him another defensive option. However, the backburner merely serves to reduce skill ceiling and increase the base damage, which is the opposite of the way weapons should work.

@RandomPieGuy i agree with you totally but the backburner was made as an idea to make pyros more skillful and flanky and not just rushing into battle. the crits on back was added to make it so pyros take advantage of the element of surprise and maximize on the strength of pyro as an almost stealthy defensive class. This has not worked out in the way hoped tho...
