A hike with my son to Hedge Creek Falls in Dunsmuir, California. The falls are at the northern end of town next to the freeway.
I arrived in Dunsmuir in the winter of 1999-2000 (remember Y2K? It happened while we were there.) During that winter my children and I hiked this trail several times - but then we moved on to Happy Camp in January 2000.
Where we lived before - the San Francisco Bay Area - we always drank Castle Rock Spring Water - it was my favorite brand of spring water. Then when we came to Dunsmuir we found the bottling facility for Castle Rock Spring Water right next to Hedge Creek Falls!
Sorry to say, a few months later Castle Rock Spring Water sold out to Crystal Geyser, and they don't even use the spring water from Hedge Creek! But we can still get it at the park as there's a water fountain there that runs 24/7 with no shut-off valve. There are several fountains like this in Dunsmuir. The water is wonderful!
