Sanja Matsuri (三社祭) literally means "Three Shrine Festival".

It is one of the three great Shinto festivals in Tokyo, along with the Kanda Matsuri and Sannō Matsuri
and is considered one of the wildest and largest.

Sanja Matsuri is held on the third weekend of every May at Asakusa Shrine
with three mikoshi (portable Shinto shrines) paraded through out the neiborhoods surrounding the Asakusa Shrine.

It is reported the festival attracts 1.5 to 2 million locals and tourists every year.
