Sailrocket finally leapt into the speed sailing arena nad posted a 42.4 knot top speed during her last run In Namibia on the 27th November 2007. Visas and funding were running out. Four days earlier she was broken in half on this same stretch of beach. We worked around the clock to repair her in the slim hope that the wind would blow on our last day. Walvis bay didn't let us down and we turned a very bad situation around.
This run proved, most importantly to us, that our faith in the potential of this boat is not misguided.

  • At 1 min you can see birds at the bottom right corner walking towards the waves on the beach.

It looks like they are walkinga bit to fast................

  • I can only assure you that after so many years of trying to make a run like this... I am perfectly satisfied with how it looked as filmed at real speed. Next time I'll do it in front of the Pelicans to save any confusuion;)

  • Very cool, innovative and a mile stone for sailing

  • Well done dude Awesome craft respect for the dedication......The Birds are natural to SA and they do naturally look like they're on crack bit like UK squirrels.... wouldn't let comments piss on a brilliant achievement..keep it up love to see 50 knot mark

  • yup, the birds are walking a bit fast..........

  • Why do most of the sailing videos on YouTube have such shitty music?

This is a spectacular video, but the music spoils everything. Too bad...

  • Well , I have reached 36knots on my isonic, and have only used 4 days so far.... Hydroptere is at 51, I think, and profesional speed windsurfers are around the 50knot mark, with relative cheap equipment and all their body strenght on it....and can sail both ways... But it is nice to see different aproaches to the record.

  • hahaaa... nice one. although might be a while before windsurfers beat Hydroptere. Good luck with that.

  • right

  • 42 knots is mental but it's closer to kite flying than sailing. - NUFF respect but moths are more relevant now.

    Gratz tho.
