While Ray sung this song as part of Dr. Hook, he was doing background vocals. While there are some songs that Ray sang lead on, the "voice" of Dr. Hook has always been Dennis Locorriere. That's why it's different. When the band broke up there became two Dr. Hooks. Ray leased the name from Dennis. Dennis bills himself as the 'voice'. Basically, you're remembering Dennis' version.

What are you talking about?? Dennis is a great singer but they were all together in this!!! And Ray is the only one Man enough to keep the name up and ALIVE!!! I Have watched several of Ray's Shows and they are a damn good time. You have to remember this is a live recording at a concert being recorded with what? a 200 dollar video recorder.

@kcdrums28 Nobody is saying it was all Dennis, just that Dennis sang the lead in the majority of the songs.
-
@kcdrums28 Take your foot out of your mouth and do some research. Shel left the rights to Dennis and that's a fact.
-
@kcdrums28 My point was/is that he uses the name through an agreement with Dennis.
-
Check the old album covers young fella. I have them all.
-
You are sadly mistaken.
-
kcdrums28 is right !!! It's "Dr.Hook Featuring Ray Sawyer". I know have seen Ray three times and have the ticket stubs to prove it plus pictuers! I got some video but I don't think YouTube would let me post it here lol. The first time I seen Ray was at The Big "E" in the early 90's and it was a great show.We got to go back stage and spend some time with the band until the big E management said it's time to go including the band lol.

dude i totally uncredited that guy when he spelt it 'doctor'
thats what ray has used when he tours

Ray uses the name "Dr. Hook Featuring Ray Sawyer"! Get your info right man.
-
It was NOT ALL dennis! Ummm there was a whole band there!
-
I don't know where you get your info from, but Dennis does NOT own the rights to any songs Shel Silverstein wrote!
Is this for real? Is this the actual Dr. Hook from the 70s? His voice is different?

Yeah, thats Ray Sawyer. I guess 30 years on the road singing and chain smoking has changed his vocals.
