some what works, I think it might be a bit of a placebo effect though, you know it feels faster because your thinking it's supposed to be faster.

try 500. I did and it made the pages load faster. Keep one thing in mind, if the site your going to is slow then this wont help much.

Hmm..did not work for me. It actually screwed up how some pages displayed. Had to go back in and change back and now pages displaying properly.

nglayout.intialpaint.delay i think this is ment to be in about:config if you have installed something such as firefox add ons or installed something that uses internet sort thing like apache
