@cyphaflip in tagalog, anything starting with a 'd' becomes an 'r' between vowels. simple as that. the root word is 'digman' but it become 'mandirigma' - a filipino who knows tagalog will automatically know that it's ma ri ri ma, not ma di di ma.

@TheTimeIsN0W try to learn filipino or tagalog words, it will teach you how to pronounce nga. we have a lot of words that use this. listen to the song panalangin by apo.

I have a question about "nga". Having memorized the Baybayin alphabet by heart since high school, I already know the symbol which represents it, but I have almost no idea how to pronounce it. I was wondering if you can provide me with the correct pronunciation of "nga". Thanks a lot. It would truly help with the research I'm doing.

I have been reading baybayin in the baybayin forum and while I get more experienced, I noticed that I didn't really need the difference between "da" and "ra" character. I think you get better with practice. I think, that's why we merged "da" and "ra" together because if a person is fluent in tagalog, I notice that there are unspoken rules that make "da" into a "ra".
But if ever I wanted to be more specific, for example, spelling a name, I would prefer different characters for "da" and "ra",

@helloanime indeed; however even as an experienced writer, I still get tripped up when switching between modern and traditional conventions. For example, with the word "Mandirigma" (warrior), in traditional it would read "ma-di-di-ma", and I would sit on it, trying to figure out what it's saying for the life of me. I think a standardized Ra character would do the community good, as well as standardizing all the other modern-characters.
