Quinta canção do ciclo Liederkreis de Robert Schumann,com poesia de Eichendorff,a interpretação é do barítono Matthias Goerne,um de meus favoritos e o acompanhamento do pianista Eric Schneider.



5. Mondnacht

Es war, als hätt' der Himmel,
Die Erde still geküßt,
Daß sie im Blütenschimmer
Von ihm nur träumen müßt.
Die Luft ging durch die Felder,
Die Ähren wogten sacht,
Es rauschten leis die Wälder,
So sternklar war die Nacht.
Und meine Seele spannte
Weit ihre Flügel aus,
Flog durch die stillen Lande,
Als flöge sie nach Haus.

The funny thing is that nobody can believe that a great piano-legato singer like Goerne can sing Wagner. But believe me his high dramatic notes are so impressive and voluminous. And also his declamation (what is also important for Wagner) in the non-legato passages are amazing. I think Kurwenal is a pre-stage to Ampfortas and Wotan and the fact that he had outshine the Tristan and the Isolde in that evening is a cause that he CAN sing Wotan.

But you'll see ;)

wotan? you are kidding me. he sings this well but wotan? gee... i can't even quite picture him as guglielmo or wolfram for that matter.

That's already different! I must say, the more singers I hear, the more I appreciate the vast array of talent that there is. Still think it's very hard to compare a lyric baritone with, say, a dramatic soprano.

If you heard the news about Wotan from him, I am sure you must be right.

@Operataurus Hey, in MY opinion he is the best singer for: Schubert and Schumann songs and for opera too. I saw him with Kurwenal in Tristan and Isolde.

And he IS going to sing Wotan. Ive talked with him after the Liederabend in Salzburg.

the "best singer"? What on earth can that statement mean? For which repertoire? Don't think there are any plans for him to attempt Wotan.

@1psoas9 Yes that's the right word, honesty. Perfect. I love her more and more, day after day, never bored with her way of singing. Each time seems to me the first time. Her Ilia, her Marzellina, her Contessa, Tatiana... I suppose you sing, as I notice your clever comment about Liederkreis. Love the way she whispers recto tono IN DER FREMDE. Is she Lesbian? :-) why not... For me she is simply THE woman !

@jefgong IThanks for the gloss on Franchies. I thought it was something like that; Jurinacis an amazingly honest singer it's not naive but it IS simple, it's manly.... I'd bet money she's Lesbian. i mean that in the BEST way. She doesn't sell anything, it's noble, and frank. I adore Schwarzkopf, but NOT how she sings the Liederkreis or Frauenlieben; it's as you say fussy. F-D, too. The poems are SO Romantic Aus der Heimat hinter den Blitzen Rot has to be sung straight like a real ballad.

@1psoas9 I charged (?) the lied on Itunes, it's ok but after 1 hour uploading it on youtube, I tried to open the video, no way... too long to try again now !

About franchise, I wanted to say that Jurinac sings without charging each word of meanings & intentions (the opposite from Schwarzkopf, F. Dieskau, for ex.) and the result is that emotion & poetry are much stronger in her recording. She sings "frankly", she doesn't hesitate, she only sings. It's sung with the heart, not with the brain...
