i'm actually planning a career in teaching as well, with one yr left in my undergrad and one of my majors happen to be in history. tutoring a grade 7 history lesson, i found the textbook to be oversimplistic stating merchantilism as the reason for european settlement in north america. only after doing 3rd yr canadian history course i learn there were millions of natives at the time. most ppl will never sit in a university level canadian history course and think, where are all the natives?

but to say we haven't come far from a time when life was so cheap that wholesale slaughter by the thousands was still a normal thing nothing of any real significance is still mistaken. And yes the history that you learn in school is abridged and fucked up But your talking to a guy who plans on making human history a career. You need to step out of the high school class room and begin to learn it on your own for an unbiased look. I'm done talking to you.

@DJSIMPLYP So again you keep complaining about the way history is documented and recorded and saying that we haven't learned anything which might be the case. so what do you suggest? that we stop recorded our history for future generations. The big picture is that in order to know who you are you need to learn who you were, and as a species we are still in our adolescence so yes we are still making childish mistakes any kid would make.

@thull21 well if we supposedly learn from our past, then we havent learned much, is the point im trying to make. im saying yes there is no point in digging up killin fields when there technically are not a part of "history" b/c it still goes on today. also your comment about recorded history. very unreliable, u must understand that "the victors write history." its all about perspective bro, big picture. understand that the history u read in school is fucked up.
