Sarah By BUDDY WASISNAME AND THE OTHER FELLERS (Cover) This is a traditional newfoundland song. I first heard it preformed Ray Johnson of Buddy Wasisname with Wayne Chaulk and Kevin Blackmore singing harmony. I was going to sing it acapella like they did, but, after sitting down with the guitar I came up a little bit of my own arrangement..Here it is. P.S: I dubbed in a little mandolin in the short solo
P.P.S: I had a few people ask if I would do Salt water joys. I'll dig it out of the pile soon enough :)

Lyrics:
I came upon a charming girl and Sarah is her name,
Her parents wants a husband with riches, wealth and fame,
I have no wealth but riches and fame, has never come my way
til the night I went to visit my love and through the keyhole say:

Chorus:
Sarah, Sarah won't you come out tonight,
Sarah, Sarah the moon is shining bright,
Put you hat and jacket on, tell your mother you won't be long,
And I'll be waiting for you round the corner!

My Sarah is the girl like this, a girl you seldom see
She loves me only for myself and not for my money
Every night at eight o'clock, she puts the needle away
And standing just outside her door and through the keyhole say:

Chorus:

Repeat intro (mashed together)

One night just after eight, I crept up to her door
and whispered, "Sarah, darling" as I often done before
"I'll give you Sarah" said a voice, as down I went flop!
And her Mother sang as she kicked me all around the shop!

Chorus:

The old woman thought she killed me and I let her think so too
As I lay there on the floor I scarce knew what to do
At last she said " alive or dead? My girl I'll let him wed"
And up I jumps said "Thank you, Ma'am" and to my girl I said:

Chorus:

Chords/Tabs: Available upon request.

  • This is my favorite version of this song, your fantastic my love. Fantastic

  • This is amazing. I ALWAYS thought that this was a very common child's song that everyone knew, because my pop pop would always play uke and sing it to me and all my cousins. My name is sara, but i never knew the actual words were sarah. also, he only ever sang the chorus, and it sounded completely different though, a lot more like a kids song. he always sang "put your shoes and your stockings on" instead of hat and jacket. im so glad to find out more info about this song and hear your version
