The mentality that Liberians and Americans are one has created a destructive perception in the minds of many Liberians. They give themselves and their children American names, practice western culture only, refuse to learn their native languages, believe that America owes us their support, etc.

Only 2.5% of the population (the Americo-Liberians) have a history with America. Native Liberians make up 95% of the entire population, and the remaining 2.5% are Congo-Liberians (freed-slaves that returned from the Caribbean). The Liberian flag and seal (coat of arms), as well as the names of many important places in Liberia need to change. We are Africans, not Americans. Stop teaching our people otherwise!!!!

The history of Liberia began when the freed-slaves arrived? Fallacy. Nonsense. They arrived in the early 1800s, and history tells us that Liberia traded with the Portugese in the 14th century. The History of Liberia began before freed slaves arrived in this particular geographic area.Therewere indigeneous people there, and we need to acknowledge this reality. Mr. Sele constant attempt to link Liberia to the United States as though Liberia's soveriegnty is rooted in the US is one of the reason why Liberia suffered years of protracted civil war.Green coast,as it was called,had chiefdoms with their own political, economic and social structures.the inhibitants lived happily before 1822.

It's a shame that we're as Liberians do not know our history. If we don't know our history, how can we as Liberians prepare for the unforeseeable future. Mr. Sele needs to do a little more research on the history of Liberia and should not depend on what he learned from the poorly written Liberian history books
