Harry Hardy recollects his WWII experiences in 440 Squadron, Canadian Typhoon Fighter Bomber Wing. Harry flew a total of 96 combat sorties in support of the Canadian and British armies (from Normandy to the crossing of the Rhine) in a plane the world would come to know as the loveable "Tiffie". His planes Pulverizer II, and Pulverizer IV have been captured in historical photographs, and depicted throughout artists renditions across the world. He carried with him a box camera throughout the war, and in this presentation, looks back through a few of his stills, logbook entries, and memories.

  • Thank you for sharing this and thanks to all the Typhoon Pilots I hope that they eventualy get the reconigtion that they deserve.

  • Wow, 60 years on and the emotions are still painfully evident. I've met two other typhoon pilots,Ramsay Milne and Bob Spooner, both great Vancouver Island boys. I have a ton of respect for all the Typhoon pilots, tough way to make a living.

  • good old bloke!

  • Thanks for uploading these videos. Not only were they great to watch but I also learnt something about Typhoon attack tactics.

  • Thanks so much for putting this up and thanks to Harry and every other man who fought for us in that war.

    I've read the early Typhoon was difficult to fly, though the Tempest V version ironed out many of the problems and was more than a match for anything the Germans had, or the US. The German jet fighter pilots feared the Tempest most and it was one of our few effective weapons against the Tiger.

  • I'm currently reading Typhoon Attack by Norman Franks which gives a good account of the lives and losses of the Tyhoon squadrons, but having Harry talking in the video is fantastic - the man is a proper hero.Thanks for uploading these videos.

  • This is the best I have seen for a long time

    ~~~~~~~~~~~ thank you
    I have 3 original photos of 198 and 137 sqdn typhoons
  • Absolutely wonderful. Many thanks to Harry and those that put this on YouTube. My Uncle of 88 yrs young, a Canadian, flew with RAF 193, he completed two tours, force landed twice and lost many, many good friends. Take good care Harry.
