Back again. I found a CD of this opera and read the libretto. The witch isn't funny, she is pretty sadistic. But I still like your interpretation!

Last night I heard the opera on the radio in German. Now, I'm pleased to know what the witch was actually singing--I didn't know how funny she was. I think your performance is great and even if German is superior, I didn't know what the heck she was saying. So thanks!

I know all that. But:
firstly "Hänsel und Gretel" isn´t an opera for children only anymore;
secondly: as I said, most of the time the singers don´t sing phonetically so well that the audience can understand the words. So the need of a translation is not that needful.
But don´t lets argue about that and better enjoy this opera. Still love it and my childhood is long gone...

@anonymusum I agree with you, in general. But this is an opera for children. I can't imagine little kids liking an opera in a language they don't understand. Anyway, our preference for original language is something new. In Verdi's and Wagner's time, translated operas weren't rare. (In fact, we still have the italian Isolda sung by Callas, and the Windgassen's german Otello) I think it was less correct, but very reasonable in a time when opera was more a living thing than a museum piece.

@anonymusum This opera is supposed to be traduced. Children must understand it.

Süße Präsentation!! Aber welche Sprache ist dass? Etwa Belgisch.....???? Unerträgliche Sprache! Ansonsten lustig wie sie hüpft, und auch das Geschicht passt ganz zu ihrer Rolle! Gut gelungen, bis auf die Sprache!!!
